Andrea was Music Consultant for the new play Placebo at Playwrights Horizons, written by Melissa James Gibson and directed by Daniel Aukin. Placebo ran through April 5. More information is available here.
Tectonic Theater Project‘s Afro-Cuban adaptation of Carmen, written and directed by Moisés Kaufman with music adapted by Arturo O’Farrill, was presented in a workshop production from November 12-23 at the Ring Theatre at the University of Miami. Andrea served as Vocal Arranger and Associate Music Adaptor.
Andrea was Associate Music Director for The Fortress of Solitude, which ran at the Public Theater from September 30-November 16. Jonathan Lethem’s 2003 novel was adapted for the stage by composer/lyricist Michael Friedman, bookwriter Itamar Moses, and conceiver/director Daniel Aukin. Andrea was Composer/Music Director for Robin Hood, the 2014 Free Theatre production at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Stella Powell-Jones directed Larry Blamire’s adaptation of the classic story. The production ran July 16-19 and 22-25 on Poker Flats Field. Recordings of the music will be available soon!
Andrea was Music Director for The Civilians’ The Great Immensity, which made its New York debut at the Public Theater this spring. Playwright Steve Cosson directed with songs by Michael Friedman. The New York Times said: “What’s truly enticing in The Great Immensity is hearing … sentiments expressed in the vivifying context of musical numbers.”
Andrea recently returned from Dallas, where she served as Music Associate for the world premiere of Fortress of Solitude by Itamar Moses and Michael Friedman, directed by Daniel Aukin. Following its run at Dallas Theater Center, Fortress will premiere off-Broadway at the Public Theater in fall 2014. More information on the Dallas production is available here.
Andrea’s first full-length musical, Strange Faces, received two private industry readings in NYC on June 25. Tony winner John Rando directed a cast featuring Derek Klena (Wicked, Dogfight), Remy Zaken (Spring Awakening), Matthew Gumley (Elf, The Addams Family), Fred Rose (Company), and Amy Justman (Company, Passion). Andrea is Music Associate for Love’s Labour’s Lost at Shakespeare in the Park this summer. This new musical adaptation by Michael Friedman and Alex Timbers is the first new Shakespeare-based musical in the Park since 1971. The production runs July 23-August 18 at the Delacorte Theater.
Andrea is Music Associate for Venice, a new musical running May 28-June 30 at The Public Theater. Part epic romance and part political tale, this electrifying new piece features a hip-hop and rock musical score. More information is available here.
